Art and Science are transformed to launch 10 days Winchester Creative Collisions - 2013

Visitors to Winchester Discovery Centre had a surprise in store when they visited last Saturday 12th October. Reaching a height of 3.5m, ‘Totem’ is a giant new artwork

that has just been installed to launch the city’s biennial 10 days visual arts event which opens on 25th October. Using 46 interlocking colourful panels this 3D figurative form was inspired by Winchester, its Cathedral and a medieval book, as well as the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Switzerland and CERN’s TOTEM projject, from which the artwork gets its name. Across the city at Winchester Science Centre ‘Transformer’ by the same artists Ian Kirkpatrick and Julien Masson is an unexpected addition to the Centre’s interactive exhibits. Together both exhibits herald the opening of 10 days and an exciting and intriguing programme which offers something for everyone to enjoy
