Sara Roberts discusses chalk as material and casting support with artists and makers Kim Norton (Ceramicist), Jacqueline Bromley (Jeweller)

About the artists:

Kim Norton uses materials from the locality in their raw state to re-imagine something that can often be regarded as unimportant. Presented onto unstretched canvas, CaCO3 dismisses formal ideas around painting. The canvas is simply a surface to work with chalk used as a mark-making tool, conveying a strong sense of place. Thank you to Mark Yorke, Sombourne Quarry for his support

Inspiration for Jacqueline Bromley’s jewellery designs is drawn from her studies of the flora and fauna of the chalk downlands and chalk streams. Research into relevant artefacts at the City Museum in Winchester has influenced both technical aspects and the materials she uses
