Andrew Carnie in collaboration with Matt Grover, Steve Bayley, Prof Uta Frith, Prof Francesca Happe.: (Light installation with sound and music, about Autism)

AWARD WINNING PROJECT & RECOMMENDED

Dark Garden: Wired in a Different Way is a slide dissolve work with sound track that explores the world of autism based on contemporary science and conversations with scientists who are trying to understand this complex field. How does knowledge of the science change our sense of self? Shown at the Science Museum Oslo 2012. 10 days has commissioned a new

sound track developed through collaboration with Matt Grover and Steve Bayley.

Extracts from an essay entitled Pilgrimage by Garry Kennard, Director of Art and Mind, offer insight to the work:

‘images slowly emerge and seep into and through thin fabric screens’…….‘hard truths. are confronted’…….‘in a sequence of images we see ourselves mirrored. Dark Garden may have started as contemplation on autism but ends with a universal reflection on our own craving for understanding, meaning and order’

Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with, and relates to, other people. It also affects how they make sense of the world around them.
