CHALK is an exhibition and engagement space with exciting happenings, interactive works and events. Visual, sound and performance artists, writers and poets explore the theme of chalk connecting our city with its past and with the chalk stream and downland landscape

Artworks, writing poetry and performance bring to light hidden histories, deep foundations and reflections on life, death, miracles and the Trinity. The chalk theme provides inspiration and material for well-established and emerging artists working in paint, print, performance and film. Normal entry fees apply. Kim Norton uses materials from the locality in their raw state to re-imagine something that can often be regarded as unimportant. Presented onto unstretched canvas, CaCO3 dismisses formal ideas around painting. The canvas is simply a surface to work with chalk used as a mark-making tool, conveying a strong sense of place.
